If you are a fan of the world-famous french macarons, chances are high you may have heard of Pierre Hermé. The news does not just end here: Pierre Hermé Paris is going to have a dream collab with Akita prefecture’s own NEXT5.
NEXT5 is a brand curated by five sake brewers from Akita prefecture. They are not only owners of sake breweries, but also front-line master sake brewers. Different from the traditional toji system, NEXT5 gained their popularity within a short period among sake-lovers through their highly-skilled brewing technique and precise market position. Pierre Hermé discovered their brand and decided to have a collab with them in their new series.
NEXT5 and “Pierre Hermé Paris” met at their brewery in Akita on the 9th this month. On top of that, Pierre Hermé, the “Picasso of Pastry” himself, also joined the meeting online from Paris. They discussed ways of adjusting the flavour and scent of sake to accentuate the taste of the brand’s pastries and sweets. NEXT5 suggested to pile up boxes of pastries and sake, create a juubako box and wrapped it with the traditional “furoshiki” wrapper. The series will launch this November.
“I found similarities between pastries and Akita’s sake in terms of preserving traditions and evolving for new tastes. I surely hope to connect with Akita more through this collaboration,” noted Pierre Hermé.
Are you excited for the launch? Can’t wait to see what this dream team will give us!
