I hope all of you are enjoying sake. Sake is delicious even when made into cocktails, and in this article, I’d like to share with you some of the most consistent and delicious ways to make it at home.
・Sake & beer
It may seem like an unexpected combination from the beginning (lol), but a cocktail made with sake and beer is surprisingly good! I recommend a 1:1 ratio of both. Once you get used to it, find the ratio you like!
The bitterness of the beer is a perfect match for the sake, making it taste like a high alcohol content Hoppy. Hoppy is an alcoholic beverage with the image of a pub in downtown Japan, the so-called “Akachochin,” so you might be able to enjoy the atmosphere of downtown Japan in an easy way.
There is also an interesting way to drink sake and beer in the United States and elsewhere. It’s called a “sake bomb”. Beer is poured into a beer mug about two-thirds full, and chopsticks are passed over the mug. Place a sake cup on top of the chopsticks and you’re ready to go, then tap the table with both hands vigorously to shake it and drop the sake cup into the beer mug. And then you just let the momentum take over and gulp down a mug of booze. It’s like a banquet trick, and when a few of us do it together, it sounds like a lot of fun and excitement! However, it is high in alcohol content, so be careful not to drink too much when you try it.
・Sake & amazake
The next recommendation is to combine it with amazake. Both amazake and sake are made from rice and koji, so how could they not go together! The amazake you use should be made of koji and sake lees only, with no added sugar. I think the addition of artificial sweetness makes the sake taste less distinct. The ratio of sake to amazake should be about 6:4, with a little more sake being the best.
The addition of amazake intensifies the flavor and dilutes the alcohol, so I find it’s simply an easier cocktail to drink! In addition, amazake is so nutritious that it is called “drinking IV” and contains many vitamins, dietary fiber, amino acids, and oligosaccharides, which can help recover from fatigue, relieve constipation and improve the quality of sleep. Furthermore, it has outstanding beauty effects, such as beautiful skin, so it is a way to drink it that can be recommended to women as well. It is not only delicious, but also good for you, it’s like a dream come true.
