Winter is a good season to enjoy hotpot and other delicious food from the fall. Eating a lot means drinking a lot of sake too, right?
We’d like to introduce our choice of four sake for Winter.
Soumura Hiyaoroshi
Rice Variety: 100% Dewa no Sato
Alcohol Content: 17%
Soumura is a brand from the Naganumagoumei Company located in the Yamagata prefecture. Their hiyaoroshi is refreshing and sharp with a fruity scent that will fill your mouth. We recommend pairing it with aromatic dishes like dishes that include mushrooms.
Sekizen Hiyaoroshi
Rice Variety: 100% Hitogokochi
Alcohol Content: 16%
Yeast: Cosmos
Sake Meter Value: +2
Acidity: 2.2
This is a sake that uses a unique yeast from cosmoses. Particular attention was given in the acidity so while the sake is sweet, a sourness can also be enjoyed. It also tastes great hot and goes well with fish dishes.
Toroman Chohiyaoroshi
Rice Variety: 21%, Gojugomangoku, 71% Yume no Kaori, 8% Himenomochi
Alcohol Content: 15%
Rice, water, and the people making the sake are carefully selected for Toroman sake, but the Chohiyaoroshi is special because it is stored for two years (“cho” means “super”). It is sharp and refreshing, therefore goes well with food that has a strong taste. Make sure to pick one up if you see it in a store because sake stored for two years like this one isn’t common.
Kinoene Ringo
Alcohol Content: 15%
This sake was crowned with an outstanding package label design for ‘Topawards Asia’. Sake Yeast Kyokai No. 77, which contains the most malic acid in white wine, is used. The flavor of apples is sweet and acidic with a fresh after taste. It is appealing to those who do not drink sake much and women often enjoy it.
Finding a limited-time only sake might mean fate. We hope that one of the sake we introduced is right for you!
